AGRICULTURE IN RUSSIA Talk To Women’s Group
Mr P. G. Stevens spoke on his recent visit to Russia at a large gathering at the March meeting of the Lincoln College Women’s Group. His journey took him by plane from Moscow deep into the mountainous Caucasus region, from where he motored to Stavropol, in the steppe region. There he saw both State and collective farms.
His coloured slides, consequently, covered a very wide range, from scenes in Moscow of the Kremlin and the magnificent permanent Agricultural Exhibition, to views of farm settlements on the vast, unfenced steepe region, showing the workers’ houses and also the various breeds of animals and the way in which they are housed and protected from the harsh winter.
Members were particularly interested in Mr Stevens’s comments on the work done by women and their place in the country’s economy.
