QUEEN MOTHER’S FLOWERS
Letter Of Thanks Received On the day the Queen Mother left Christchurch, members of the Country Women’s Institutes sent her flowers as Her Majesty is a member of the institfjte in England. The card sent with the flowers read: “To Her Most Gracious Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, with warmest love and affection and good wishes for a safe return to your homeland—from the president and executive of the Canterbury Federation of Country Women’s Institutes.” The following letter has been received by the president of the federation from the Hon. Mrs Olivia Mulholland, Her Majesty’s Lady-in-Waiting: “I am commanded by Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, to thank you and the members of the executive for your charming message of appreciation and good wishes for Her Majesty’s safe journey. ‘‘Queen Elizabeth was delighted with your bouquet of lovely blue gentians, which are one of Her Majesty’s favourite flowers, and I am sure you will be happy to know that Queen Elizabeth carried the flowers with her on her departure from New Zealand.
‘‘l am to send you Queen Elizabeth’s best wishes for the success of the work of the Country Women’s Institute in which Her Majesty has long taken a personal st,” the letter concluded.
