Better’s Loss On Winner
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE, March 9. A better who laid 6 to 4 on Tulloch, winner of the St. Leger Stakes at Flemington yesterday, lost £7.10s when went to collect his winnings. He made a bet of £l2O to £BO on. Prince Darius, Tulloch’s main rival, was withdrawn from the race on the morning of the event, suffering from a stomach complaint. Stewards ruled that all bets made on Tulloch before Prince Darius was scratched were to be paid at the face value of the ticket, less 8s 9d in the £l. The face value of the better’s ticket was £2OO, less £B7 10s. Therefore he received £ll2 10s in return for his outlay of £l2O.
