Announcement Of Cabinet (Rec. 11 p.m.) CAIRO, March 6. President Nasser issued a decree today appointing a joint cabinet for the United Arab Republic in which Egyptians head most key ministries. There are eight joint Ministries for Syria and Egypt—seven of them with Egyptian ministers. Other ministries have separate heads for the Egyptian and Syrian regions. President Nasser also appointed two leaders from each country as Vice-Presidents under his leadership. They are: the Speaker of the Egyptian National Assembly, Mr Abdel Latif Boghdadi, the Com-mander-in-Chief of the Republic’s armed forces, Marshal Abdel Hakim Amer, the Speaker of the Syrian Parliament, Mr Akram Hourani, and the Syrian Prime Minister, Mr Sabry el Assali. The Syrian Army Intelligence chief, Colonel Abdel Hamid Serraj, becomes Syrian Regional Interior Minister. He is the man who said in Damascus yesterday that he had been offered more than £2O million by Saudi Arabia if he carried out a plot to assassinate President Nasser and to thwart plans for the Republic. The head of the Egyptian delegation at the British-Egyptian finance talks, Dr. Hassan Abbas Zaki, was appointed Egyptian Regional Minister of Finance. JEWELS OF BEY OF TUNIS Charges Of Holding Seized Property (Rec. 9 p.m.) TUNIS, March 7. A former Prime Minister of Tunis and his wife are among nine persons charged with holding large quantities of jewels valued at more than 100 million francs (about £83,000) which belonged to the Bey of Tunis. They are Tahar ben Amar and Mrs Zakia Amar. The police allege the jewels were hidden during the Tunisian Government’s sequestration of the Royal Family’s property when the Bey of Tunis was dethroned last July. The jewels were found earlier this week in the home of a French photographer, Ernest Spiteri. The police said the jewels had been given to Spiteri by Prince Rafed, aged 22, grandson of the former Bey of Tunis, and issued a list of nine persons who had been “called for questioning.” The list of those charged Included the former Prime Minister and ms wife; Mrs Spiteri; the Bey’s second son. Prince Mohamed; the wile of the Bey’s eldest son, Chadley Bey; Mrs Ben Amar’s brother, Laroussi Ben Ayed. and a jeweller. Jacques Saadoun. Chadley Bey is awaiting trial by the High Court on charges of abuse of power and illegal acquisition of riches. FREEDOM OF TORONTO Mayor Solves Problem <Rec. 7.30 p.m.) TORONTO. March 7. Sir Winston Churchill wrote to the Mayor of Toronto, Mr Nathan Phillips, this week saying that he would be happy to accept the freedom of the city. Mr Phillips was puzzled. Toronto does not have such an honour to give. Sir Winston Churchill, he said, must have misunderstood the wording of a letter which had been sent wishing him a speedy recovery from his recent illness. But last night Mr Phillips came up with a solution. He is going to create a “freedom of the city” honour especially for Sir Winston Churchill. Secret Service Man On Spy Charge (Rec. 9 p.m.) LAUSANNE, Mar. 7 A former Swiss secret service agent and Federal police inspector, Max Ulrich, is to be tried on charges of espionage, according to the British United Press. A Swiss Federal Court announcement said the trial would

be before a Federal Criminal Court, but did not give a date. Ulrich, one of the key figures in an espionage case, has been under arrest since May, 1957.
