IRAQ HITS BACK
“Lies And Cheap Propaganda”
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) BAGDAD, March 7. The Iraqi Director-General of Guidance and Broadcasting, Brigadier Mushin Mohammed Ali, yesterday categorically denied Egyptian and Syrian allegations that a high Iraqi personality was involved in a plot against the Egyptian regime of President Nasser. [The prosecutor in a current trial before/ a Cairo military court has said .that Crown Prince Abdul Illah of Iraq took part in the alleged plot.] An Iraqi communique said these allegations were * “unfounded, and formed another link in a chain of lies and false accusations.”
The brigadier described as “cheap propaganda” and “a pack of lies” Syrian allegations that King Saud of Saudi Arabia had plotted the assassination of President Nasser and the prevention of the Egyptian-Syrian union. He said Iraq had no intention of responding to the “daily lies and attacks against Iraq” and the “Iraqi-Jordan Arab Union” carried by the Syrian and Egyptian press and radio.
