BRASSICA CROPS
Warning To Fanners About Aphids
The Entomology Division of the Department of Scientific and industrial Research at Ashburton has issued the following statement regarding possible infestation of turnip and other crops by aphids: “Flights by winged aphids during the last week throughout Canterbury are expected to give rise to widespread infestation in all crops of brassicas. Weather has been ideal for the flights, and winged aphids are now evenly dispersed on many crops previously uninfested. Farmers would ,be well advised to inspect sucn crops closely and seek advice from their local Department of Agriculture or from commercial firms as to measures necessary for the control of these pests.”
