Mrs Stewart Hunter, of 182 Worcester street, will leave'New Zealand early next week by the Port Auckland for Britain. Mrs Hunter will make an extensive tour of England, Europe and the United States.

Coloured slides of the'Mackenzie Country were shown by Mrs L. W. McCaskill at the annual meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Timaru High School Old Girls’ Association. Members reported on the recent visit to Christchurch of an old girl of the school, Mrs Louis Meyer, who has lived in California, for more than 40 years. The following officers were elected: patron, Miss N, M. Dickie; president, Mrs W. J. Braun; vice-presidents, Miss J. Byers and Miss P. B. Watts; committee, Mrs L. W. McCaskill, Mrs J. R. Butler, Mrs D. G. Papprill, Mrs N. Bell, Miss M. Travers, Miss M. Clissold; secretary, Miss D. M. Johnston; treasurer, Mrs A. W. Bailey; auditor, Mr R. C. Shillets.

A programme arranged ty Mrs Hilda Reeve was presented at the first meeting of the year of the music circle of the Overseas League. Items were presented as follows: Mr and Mrs Jack Davies, Mrs Eva Fulton, Mr and Mrs James Wilson (songs and duets), Mesdames Hilda Reeve and Rhona Burrows (piano duets), Miss Minor Cocker (musical monologues). Mrs B. Mclntosh thanked Mrs Reeve and the artists.

The executive of the North Canterbury Christian Temperance Union met at the Cambridge terrace Methodist Sunday school recently. Mrs H. S. Griffiths was in the chair and Mrs E. R. Clark led devotions. Miss Gainsford reported on Christian education. Mrs E. R. Clark will represent the North Canterbury district at the Dominion convention in Palmerston North. Other members attending will be Mesdames Dodge, McMillan, Buggy, Ellis, Gainsford, Gundry and Hunt.

The eighteenth annual meeting of St. Thomas’ Mothers’ Union was held recently. The church service was conducted by the Rev. L. A. Barnes. He also conducted the meeting and spoke on the observance of Lent. Officers were elected as follows: enrolling member, Mrs W. Murray; vicepresidents, Mesdames A. Foote, M F. Sorrell and P. J. Creba; secretary, Mrs L. J. Graham; treasurer, Mrs Bruce; committee, Mesdames D. Prestney, M. Whatman, P. J. Creba and Scoltock.

The monthly meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Waitaki High School Old Girls’ Association was held at the home of Mrs T. Haughton recently. Twenty-four members were present. Miss Joan Newson gave a talk on her visit to Canada and the United States to attend - the International Guide Camp. She was in charge of the New Zealand party. She showed coloured slides of her journey through Canada and the United States, and also of the camp and the girls of many nationalities who were present.

Members of the West of England Women’s Association have had several bus trips during the summer and have now begun holding meetings in their rooms. Mrs D. Johnson gave an account of customs and described the scenery in Northern India. Mrs G. Eastmona presided and Mrs E. Garlick thanked the speaker.
