The monthly meeting of the North Canterbury District Womens’ Christian Temperance Union, executive, was presided over by Mrs Griffiths. Mrs E. R. Clark conducted devotions. Miss Gainsford gave a report on the Council of Christian Education. A discussion was held on me ■‘school of methods" plan in regard to the teaching of the value of temperance. Remits for the Dominion convention were discussed.

The annual missionary market, in aid .of the Melanesian and Polynesian missions, will be held in the Old Art Gallery, Durham street, on May 21, it was decided at a meeting of parish representatives held in Church House recently. The following parishes have decided to take part: Avonside. Addington. Bryndwr, Belfast. Fendalton. Holy Trinity. Lyttelton. St. Luke's. St. John's. St Michael's. St. Nicholas, St. Albans. Shirley, Kaiapoi. St. Peter's. Sydenham and Beckenham. The Rev. R. J. Witty, chairman of the Diocesan Missionary Council, who presided, emphasised the need of increased support for the church's work in the. various mission fields. Because of the increased cost of stores and other commodities, he said, the missionaries were finding it extremely difficult. It was decided to open the market at 111. a.m.. and to continue until the I late afternoon.
