Acknowledgement Of Letters

Sir.—lt is difficult to believe that the large number of Ministries, in relation to the popular tion, in New Zealand have anything like the volume of correspondence to deal with that is handled by the various .Government departments in England. Yet whereas, in the case of the latter, it is the almost invariable practice to answer, or at any rate acknowledge, correspondence without delay, in this country it seems that a far more perfunctory attitude is adopted. Common eourtesy apart, it is surely within the competence of any junior typist to send a formal acknowledgement of any letter received, pending more authoritative action on the part of the Ministry concerned.— Yours, etc., M.T February 14, 1958.
