“Work, Earn And Save"
Sir,—So we New Zealanders have been urged to “work, earn, and save.” Work harder and have our extra rewards taken from us by confiscatory taxation, i Earn a pound which has dropped: in value (since 1935) to approxi-l mately 8s 7d. Save, and have our savings steadily devalued through continually inflating prices. Does anyone sincerely believe that the Socialist Labour Government will be able to reduce taxation and etabilise the pound any more than the orthodox National Government could? So steeped in l conservatism and the T.A.B. are New Zealanders that we never; bother to ascertain why nd government has succeeded in doing these things. Such a course would mean using a little elementary intelligence and that is better left to the “experts.” National Debt? Never heard of it—come on, it’s nearly closing time. —Yours, etc., B. B. THOMPSON. Ashburton, February 14.
