MARCHING AND VARIETY
Funds For Teams Making Tour
A large crowd gathered at Lancaster Park vesterdav afternoon for a fine display of marchink and 'Variety items.
The entertainment was organised by the United Marching Association to help the funds of the three teams—Downings Red Robins. United Kilties and Blue Star Taxis—which will leave on February 24 for a tour of Australia.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was the ouickstep and drum majors’ disnlav by the Metropolitan Highland Pipe Band.
The Christchurch Fire Brigade Brass Band took the ooportunitv to try out their quickstep before the public. .Although the ground was not marked for the Quickstep, the band gave a good performance. One fault was the poor dressing when coming out of the counter march.
The displays given by six senior marching teams and six junior teams were effective. Gymnasium pupils gave a displav of tumbling. The maze march, which was originated by one of the marching girls, was the finest that has been seen at any marching entertainment this year. A burlesque march was given by members of the executive and team instructors.
