BANK CLERK GIVEN PROBATION

Theft Of £lOO At New Plymouth (New Zealana Press Association > NEW PLYMOUTH, Jan. 21. A 21-year-old former bank clerk, Gwynne Hugh Kerr, who last Friday pleaded guilty, to a charge of stealing £lOO, was today placed on probation for two years when he appeared for sentence before Mr A. W. Yortt, S.M., in the New Plymouth Magistrate’s Court. Kerr, was employed by the Bank of New Zealand at New Plymouth when he stole the money on January 10. A special condition of probation is that Kerr pays £lO towards the cost of the prosecution. The Court was told that restitution had been made in full and a position had been found for Kerr. The Magistrate said he was taking into account the fact that Kerr had lost his employment with the bank. “No doubt you realise now how stupid your action was,” he told Kerr.
