TUESDAY (Before Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M.) MOTOR-CYCLIST FINED
“This offence was committed on Labour Day, a pretty busy day with many people about,” said Traffic Officer C. Hansen, for the Transport Department, when prosecuting George James Worthington, for driving at a dangerous speed, exceeding 30 miles an hour when not wearing a safety helmet, and exceeding 40 miles an hour when carrying a pillion passenger. “Worthington attained a speed of 75 miles an hour and passed all and sundry at a speed which I considered dangerous under the circumstances. The defendant is well known to the Court,” said Traffic Officer Hansen.
For driving at a dangerous speed Worthington was fined £lO and his driver’s licence was suspended for six months. For exceeding 30 miles an hour without a safety helmet he was fined £2. and £3 for exceeding 40 miles an hour when carrying a pillion passenger. OTHER TRAFFIC CASES On charges brought by the Transport Department, offenders were fined as follows:
Permitting use of unlicensed vehicle: Rowley Andrews, £3. Exceeding 30 m.p.h.: Warner Adrian Baker, £4 (no safety helmet, £2; exceeding 40 m.p.h. while restricted to “L” plates. £3); Ramon Jennings Coates, £3. No warrant of fitness: Douglas McLean Browlee (trailer), £1 (no safety chain, £1). Parked on pedestrian crossing: Douglas Maurice Clapp, £2. Stopped on bus stop: John Harry Limbrey, £2. ; ‘ Driving while prohibited by traffic officer: Gary Lowe, £5. Trailer not safely secured: George Alexander Robertson, £2. On charges brought by the Christchurch City Council’s Traffice Department the following fines were imposed:— Failed to give way: Ronald Harold Beck, £5; Walter Charles Whittaker, £5; George McCrea. £3.
Parked over time limit: Stanley George McGrath, £2. Driving without reasonable consideration: William Stevenson Montgomery, £4. Parked in time-expired metred space: Arthur Raymond Berry, £3; Edward Rowe Berry, £4: James Lawrence Holden, £2. Arthur Samuel Jacobs, £l.
No warrant of fitness:—Ralph Jeffrey Bond, £2; Roger Parman Brown, £1; Jack Frederick Bryant (trailer), £2; Ronald Charles Hamilton, £2; William Ernest Hardman, £2; Desmond Heslip. £1; Lester Ralph Judkins, £1 (trailer, £1); George Albert Lindsay, £3; Allan Joseph Oliver, £2; Frank Parr, £2: William John Ross, £2; Leslie Charles Robert Williams, £2.
