CAT MISSES SHIP
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, January 18. Rikki, the Siamese cat which missed the boat when her owners sailed for New Zealand, left London today to join them, but only after a frantic ..search. by animal care officials and a radio message to the liner at sea. The reluctant emigrant belongs to Mr and Mrs Pawson, of Orpington, Kent, who left on December 5 with their two sons to settle in New Zealand. Rikki and the Pawsons’ dog travelled in the . furniture van from Orpington, but the cat absented herself on the way to the docks. The family, including the dog, left in the liner Athenic without Rikki. She was later found by officials of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Anamils, who wired the Athenic at sea. Back came the reply: “Please send Rikki.’’ The first stage of the 10,000-mile journey was to Liverpool End, then Rikki will sail for Wellington early next week. Her fare is £25.
