Altered Exchange Rates The £ sterling lost nearly 1 cent to the Canadian dollar last week, but gained slightly on the United States dollar. The premium on the Canadian dollar rose to about cents in terms of the United States dollar during the week. The Belgian franc also gained in terms of sterling but changes in other rates were marginal. Altered telegraphic transfer exchange rates, as advised yesterday by the Bank of New South Wales, are as follows: New Zealand on— New York: Buying, 2.8088 dollars to £N.Z.I (compared with 2.8076 dollars on January 13); selling. 2 7770 dollars (2.7758), Montreal: 2.7670 dollars (2.7751); 2.7314 dollars (2.7394). Belgium: 141.52 francs (141.82): 137.00 francs (137 30). Italy- 1754 lire (1755): 1719 lire (1720). Sweden: 14.59 kroner (same); 14.25 kroner (14.26). PLEASANT POINT Seventy head of good quality fat cattle met a keen inquiry from butchers, with values holding extra firm at Pleasant Point today. Three hundred and fifty fat lambs and two races of fat sheep held steady competition from exporters and butchers, with values showing little change on recent sales. The offering of store sheep was a large one. made up for the most part of store lambs, values for which were held to a buoyant level by the large number of farmers present.
