Flood Areas
Samples have been taken from semi-public and private sources of water supply which could have been affected by recent flooding in the Kainga and Coutts Island areas.
The District Medical Officer of Health (Dr. A. Douglas) said that the samples would be analysed in the. Government laboratories in Christchurch and results should be available within a week.
The samples will be tested for chemical contamination as well as bacterial infection. Consumers of water from supplies which have been tested will be advised of the results of the tests by health inspectors. The department is also carrying out checks on the Otira water supply and sanitation after the recent severe flood damage.
If any contamination of the water supply- Is expected an analysis will be made, but there Is no obvious gross contamination.
