South Island Carnation Society’s Annual Show

Although many blooms exhibited at the South Island Carnation Society's show yesterday had been affected on the petal edges by sunlight after rain, the standard generally was fairly good, according to one of the judges, Mr E. Margetts. In spite of the unfavourable weather the number of entries was greater than last year, he said. The premier border bloom, ’Ballerina," shown by E. de Nicolo, was an outstanding bloom and well above the standard of most of those exhibited.

There was a fairly strong showing in the decorative and cut flower sections said the secretary <Mr R. Lester). Special exhibits included fuchsias, a carpet of carnations and a display by the Cactus and Succulent Society. The judges were Messrs W. Adams, P. F. McLay,. E. Margetts. W. B. Olorenshaw, M. J. Gilpin and Mrs E. L. King. Results were:— Border Carnations Seedling Classes.—W. G. Leiter. 2 firsts, 3 seconds, I third; R. J. Weir, 1 first. 1 second; W. D. Carplnter, 1 third. Open.—P. J.
