(NJZ. Press Association —Copyright)' (Rec. 7 p.m.) SINGAPORE, January 8. The New Zealand Commissioner in South-East Asia, Mr Foss Shanahan, announced today that five Singapore Chinese middle school students had been granted Colombo Plan awards for university study in New Zealand.

He said the five would leave Singapore on January 10. Two would study for an arts degree in mathematics, and three would take science courses. Mr Shanahan said it was expected that the students would spend the first year at New Zealand secondary schools preparing for the University of New Zealand’s entrance examination. He said thd five awards were the first made by the New Zealand Government to students from Singapore Chinese middle schools, and New Zealand hoped to be able to provide more scholarships in future years.
