AUSTRALIAN ATHLETES

Visitors Go To Southland Two Australian' women athletes who represented their country at the Melbourne Olympic Games and the holder of the women’s world record for 440 yards, arrived in Christchurch from Australia yesterday on their way to Southland.

They are Miss Erica Willis, who competed in the long jump at the Olympic Games and who holds the Australian resident long jump record, Mrs Norina Fleming, who was a member of the Australian women’s relay team and finished fourth in the final of the 200 metres in the last Olympic Games, and Mrs Nancy Boyle, who holds the world record for 440 yards. The fourth member of the party is Miss Wendy Hayes, holder of the Australian women’s junior record for 100 yards and the Victorian record for 80 metres hurdles. The athletes have been invited to New Zealand by the Southland Amateur Athletic Centre to compete at Lumsden, Winton,. Invercargill and Dunedin. They will also compete as a relay team.
