Tiny Radio Valve Invented
(N.Z Press Association— CoppngMf PARIS. January 8. The French Post Office today announced the development of a new radio valve called the tecnetron, the size of a mathhstick, which, it said, “is a substantial improvement on the Americaninvented transistor.”
Transistors—effective only In the lower frequency ranges—could not be used effectively for television, telegiflded missiles, or telecommunications. But the tecnetron could uss frequencies up to 1000 megacycles, giving it unlimited scope in these fields. The tecnetron was perfected by Mr Stanislas Teszfier, a 53-year-old Polish-bom Post Office research worker.
Miss Marjorie Rowley, of Fendalton, has left for Auckland to join the Rangitata tot England, where she will further her singing studies. She expects to be away for about a year.
