NEW HALL FOR PENSIONERS
Proposal To Be Considered
A proposal to build a pensioners’ meeting hall at the rear of the building of the Christchurch branch of the New Zealand Pensioners’ Association in Worcester street would be discussed by the committee before the next quarterly meeting, it was decided when the association met yesterday. At present, the association had £l5OO in the bank on fixed deposit. Discussing funds, a committee member, Mrs R. Thomas, said: “We are looking after our aged and it is up to the Government to help us. It is a long time since we had anything from the art unions.’’
Mr F. H. Rix, the secretary, expressed his willingness to travel to Wellington at his own expense to represent the association in discussions with the Minister of Internal Affairs. Mr Rix said that builders had inspected the property and had led him to believe that the necessary permits could be obtained. • Mrs R. Thomas and Mr H. J. Gracie were elected delegates to the national conference to be held in Wanganui next B/larch. Mr Rix. who is South Island vicepresident, would also attend.
