School Changed For Football Code
(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 8. So that his two sons can play soccer at school Mr Derek Richards, a retired Lieutenant-Com-mander and Oxford Blue at the game has uprooted his Ipswich home and gone to live in London 70 miles away. Mr Richards said he wanted his sons Anthony, aged 13, and Kevin, aged 12, to go to a good soccer playing school because he was sure playing Association Football gave greater aid to development of character than any game. Rugby football is compulsory at all three Ipswich leading grammar and public schools, junior boys play soccer. The EUchards boys had to conform to
the Rugby tradition at the school they went to in Ipswich. A few weeks ago their father sent them to Battersea School where Anthony has already won a place in the second eleven. Mr Richards said he had nothing against Rugby. Six of eight famous schools played Association Football as well as Rugby and he could not see why this should not be so at Ipswich.
