Further Details Announced
To cope with anticipated peak summer traffic in February and March five return services will be provided by Tasman Empire Airways between Christchurch and Australia.
At present, Melbourne services are heavily booked until early March. On Sydney flights from Christchurch, first class seats are still available for January. Tourist class seating is available on about half the February flights and first class accommodation is vacant on all. Both tourist and first class seating is resonably available for all flights in March, except one or two services on which all tourist seating is booked. It is anticipated that special services scheduled for January wiH make bookings generally available throughout the summer period. One aircraft .will leave Christchurch for Sydney at 11.15 a.m. on January 28 carrying the British Prime Minister (Mr Harold Macmillan). It will be sent down empty from Auckland at 10 a.m. on the same day. The airline has announced extra flights additional to the four return 1 services a week to Australia.
On January 18 a Qantas Super Constellation aircraft on charter will arrive at Christchurch at 2.40 p.m. from Melbourne and depart for the return trip at 5 p.m. the same day.
On January 22, a plane will arrive from Sydney at 11.10 p.m. and leave Christchurch for Sydney at 1.30 a.m. the following day t A plane flying empty from Auckland, will depart from Christchurch for Sydney at 6 p.m. on January 27, returning to Christchurch at 7.40 a.m. the next day. It will return to Auckland at 9 a.m.
On Tuesday, January 28, a northal service day, Mr Macmillan’s aircraft will be in addition to the normal service. It will arrive at 3.10 p.m. from Sydney and depart at 5 p.m. Another special will depart for Sydney at 6 p.m.
