INCOME TAX DEMANDS
Minister Explains Procedure CNew Zeautna Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 8. The Minister of Finance (Mr A. H. Nordmeyer) said today that there would be few cases in whicn amended income tax assessments would need to be sent out when the Government’s proposed legislation for the £lOO tax rebate was. passed.
If the assessment showed tax on taxable income of £lOO or less, taxpayers would not be required to pay any tax. It the assessment showed tax on taxable income in excess of £lOO the amount payable was the balance remaining after deducting £lOO from that figure. It was not proposed to Issue a written notice to each taxpayer showing an amended assessment. “There will, however, be a few cases where amended notices will be necessary,” said the Minister. “These will be sent as soon as the amending legislation is passed They will apply to some cases of estates, combined aggregate assessments and assessments which include a share in an estate in cases . where the gross tax assessed under the existing legislation exceeds £lOO, that is. before the allowance of any ra. b«t, or credits." - ”1
