NO-REMITTANCE LICENCES
Review Under Way
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 7. The Customs Department announced today that the no-remit-tance licence scheme was undei review and a decision was expected soon.
Until the decision was made, no new applications should be accepted by the collectors, the Comptroller of Customs (Mr E. S Gale) said today. Licences already authorised by the department before January 1 this year might, however, be revalidated and, in accordance with normal procedure, no remittance licences issued for the 1957 licensing period, but not yet used, might be made available for imports during 1958. Mr Gale said the token licence scheme was also under review, and a decision was expected soon.
