Minister Confers With Manufacturers
(New Zealand Press Association/ WELLINGTON, January 7. The Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr P. N. Holloway) has already begun discussions with groups of New Zealand industries with the aim of finding means of bridging the gap in consumer goods supplies which will develop from the Government’s exchange allocation and import licensing policy. This morning Mr Holloway met the council of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation, and this afternoon the executive of the Woollen Mills’ Association called on him.
Mr Holloway will fly to Auckland tomorrow morning, and in the afternoon he will have talks with the council of the Auckland Manufacturers’ Association. After today’s meeting. Mr Holloway said that the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation has assured him that New Zealand industry would continue to produce high-quality goods at reasonable prices without taking advantage of any temporary situation that might exist during the next year. The president of the federation (Mr G. W. Lane) pledged the co-operation of the federation in the efforts of the Government to promote the national welfare.
