TREATMENT FOR TULLOCH
Skin Complaint Reported
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, January 7.
The champion three-year-old, Tulloch, for whom an overseas trip to England and America is planned for later this year has been under veterinary treatment for a skin complaint for some weeks. In spite of a statement by a veterinary surgeon yesterday that Tulloch was fit, experienced track observers are not so sure.
After watching Tulloch gallop on the track today they said he was short in action.
A big Southern Hemisphere autumn programme has been planned for the New Zealand-bred colt, his main mission being the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, which will be seen by the Queen Mother on her forthcoming Australian tour.
The turf editor of the “Sydney Sun,’’ Mr Jack Charles, today said: “There is no doubt that Tulloch’s general appearance is causing a great deal of comment. It has been reported that the champion’s general dull appearance can be blamed on a skin complaint.’’ “Tulloch was bandaged on both forelegs, but this is not unusual and would not have any significance. My report yesterday that Tulloch’s appearance was causing speculation among Randwick track regulars has drawn denials that there is anything wrong with him. “With a champion like Tulloch, or for that matter any other good horse, it is natural he should be watched closely by most people who go to the tracks in the early morning.
“The colt is due to resume racing in the St. George Stakes at Caulfield on February 15. The view is that Tulloch will have to ‘pick up’ considerably to be ready for that race. Of course, Tulloch could do just this, and everybody hopes he does,” said the writer.
