“FRENCH DAYS” AT PALACE
Puzzle For Princess Anne (T9JS. Pfst Auoctatlon—Copyright) * LONDON, Jan. 5. The Royal Family is having a series of “French days" at Sandringham, and they are puzzling Princess Anne, the “Sunday Dispatch” said today. The newspaper said that the French days are those on which only French is spoken.
They are the Queen’s Idea, because she is keen that Prince Charles and Princess Anne should learn to speak French quickly. The “Sunday Dispatch” said that Prince Charles was rapidly becoming an accomplished French speaker and looked forward to French days—but his sister was not so advanced and was finding them a puzzle.
On several occasions she had been found in the servants* quarters with non-French-speaking staff, the newspaper ’added.
But even this has been overcome—the staff has been briefed to say “Je ne comprends pas.”
Prince Charles went duckshooting with the Duke of Edinburgh on the Norfolk Broads yesterday.
The Queen and the Duke will return to London from Sandringham tomorrow to attend Princess Alexandra’s 21st birthday party at Kensington Palace.
The Princess was 21 on Christmas Day.
