SUBURBAN PLAYS IN WELLINGTON
A. Scott Takes Nine For 90 (From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON. January 1. The second day’s play in the annual representative cricket match between Christchurch Suburban and Wellington Mercantile League being played in Wellington, left the game in a very open position. Wellington had first use of the wicket and made 113. Christchurch in its first innings made 164. In the second innings Wellington was dismissed for 278, leaving Christchurch 228 to win. At stumps Christchurch had lost one wicket for seven runs. The two highlights of the two days’ play were the 109 not out by M. Giles, the former Wellington Plunket Shield player, in Wellington’s second innings, and the outstanding bowling performance of the young Christchurch Suburban swing bowler, A. Scott, who took nine wickets for 90 runs in Wellington’s second innings. He also had a hand in the loss of the tenth wicket, fielding the ball which brought a run out. In Suburban’s first innings J. Milne showed a return to form to make 43 not out.
In Wellington’s second innings. Christchurch had the initiative with five wickets down for 73, but the sixth wicket stand by Giles and B. Bass brought 105 runs. Scores:—
