Situation: A deep depression is passing to the south of the South Island and the associated cold front is advancing on to the country from the Tasman Sea. Forecast:— West Coast: Strong northerly winds and widespread ram; moderate temperatures; a gradual improvement late in the day .spreading from the south-west Outlook: cool and showery. Nelson and Marlborough: Fresh to strong north-west winds; weather cloudy; rain spreading from the west in the afternoon; mild temperatures. Outlook: cooler with showers. Inland Canterbury: Strong to gale force north-west winds: F ai , n ’ heavy in the alps and foothills, showers elsewhere but clearing in the afternoon. Outlook: showers.
