BOYS’ BRIGADE JUBILEE

Mr Nash Opens Camp

'New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 29.

A flurry of pigeons burst into the sky like a star shell, a brass band thumped out a rousing march, and 1600 members of the Boys' Brigade from eight countries roared three cheers when the Prime Minister (Mr Nash) officially opened their 10-day international camp at Ardmore toaay. In ideal weather, ranks of boys,

in companies and platoons, listened to speakers congratulate the Brigade on reaching its 75th anniversary. As Mr Nash arrived, he was accorded a general salute with a fanfar? of trumpets. He then inspected a guard of honour before joining the official party on the platform. He was welcomed by tae commanding officer, Mr M. T. Dearsly.

Mr Nash said the purpose of the Boys’ Brigade was to build better men with a Christian foundation. Nothing was truer than that irrespective of the mistakes a person made, if he had God’s vision in his make-up, and tried in a Christian way to be a better man, he would have achieved a great deal. “If you find that elemental strength in youth,” Mr Nash told the boys, “you will have gone a long way to getting a purpose from life. If I were asked the purpose of life I would say it was to be worthy of yourself through God. The purpose of life is not economic, political or social success, but to assist in the progression of the human race.”
