Strong Fields For Washdyke Meeting
Watch and Wait and Her Ex will form a popular bracket for the Christmas Handicap, the main race and first leg of the double on the second day of the South Canterbury Jockey Club’s summer meeting at Washdyke today. , Watch and Wait was withdrawn from the Timaru Cup on Saturday, but Her Ex was a creditable third to Tamarisk and Beau Revere in the Rangitata Handicap.
The field is a strong one, and honours will not be easily earned. Teaka, one of the stars of the New Zealand Cup meeting, is a notable newcomer at the» meeting. Nearly everything he has done so far has pointed to an outstanding career as a stayer, but he started the present season with a brilliant win against the sprinters at Ashburton, so his chance at a mile and 35 yards cannot be lightly regarded. Tamarisk and Beau Revere strengthen the possibility of a win for one of the light-weights, and Timaru Cup form will have proved of value if Silver King—he was fourth on Saturday—makes the grade. Devilry and Purser are expected to represent Riccarton'with credit in the Smithfield Hack Handicap, the second-leg of the double.
