N.I. Switchgear Operators Given Pay Increase
(New Zealand Press Association/ WELLINGTON, December 29. Increases of up to 6s 8d in weekly basic pay rates are included in an award issued by the Court of Arbitration for North Island switchboard operators—operators of switchgear and electrical machinery. The award, negotiated between the Auckland Electric Power Board and companies, boards, councils and employers’ unions associated with it, in Conciliation Council, and the North- Island Electrical Workers’ Union, includes a new “hot work” clause. This states that where a man is working in a building with an air temperature exceeding llOdeg Fahrenheit he shall be paid ordinary time rate in addition to the rate otherwise payable to him. The award is retrospective to December 1, and will remain in force until June 30, 1959.
