Teams Depleted
All the teams in the Malvern Cricket Sub-Association’s competition on Saturday were affected by the absence of players who were either engaged in a representative match or on holidays. Solid batting by B. Jenkins (77) and several dropped catches by South Malvern assisted Sheffield to score 198 in its first innings. The slow boyvler, H. Joyce, was the most successful of the South Malvern attack. He took five wickets for 15 runs. J. Marsh (42) was the best South Malvern batsman, and C. Croy, a medium-pace Sheffield bowler, was the most successful bowler with six wickets for 14. In the United and Darfield seniors match R. Churton made a, good double performance for United with 48 runs and three wickets for 27 runs. For Darfield senior B. Lenihan bowled well with four wickets for eight and a Massey College student, C. Campbell, batted solidly to score 40. Details were:— Sheffield 198 (D. Jenkins 20, P. Morrison 17, B. Jenkins 77, O. Clark 29, C. Croy 24; J. Mar4h three for 54, H. Joyce five for 15) drew with South Malvern 91 for eight wickets (1. Joyce 24, J. Marsh 42; C. Croy six for 14). United 91 (R. Churton 48; B. Lenihan four for 8, G. Cumming three for 21. D Waghorn two for 37) beat Darfield seniors 80 (C. Campbell 40, G. Steele 17; J. Dysart four for 20, R. Morris three for 14, R. Churton three for 27). Greendale beat Darfield juniors.
