Malvern Beats Ellesmere
Although the last match in .the Masefield Shield series between Malvern and Ellesmere was drawn, Malvern gained a win on wicket averages. Malvern has retained the shield.• A good century by A. F. Wright was the main feature of the match. Batting for 110 minutes, Wright was undefeated with 135. He scored with shots all round the wicket, and included in his innings were 15 fours and five sixes. He gave two hard chances, one at 80, and one at 130. Malvern scored 283 for nine wickets, declared. M. Frampton, a medium-pace bowler, was the best of the Ellesmere bowlers, and took two wickets for 28. R. Brown batted solidly for Ellesmere against the steady and accurate Malvern attack. Brown scored a valuable 67. For Malvern, the medium out-swinger, D. Gunn, and the left-arm medium-pace bowler, A. F. Wright, bowled well, and they were solidly supported by the other Malvern bowlers. Scores were Malvern 283 for nrfie wickets declared (R. Gqnn 35, J. .Gunn 20, T McGowan 22, A. F. Wright 135 not out, N. Rothwell 10, D. Gunn 11, G Loe 12 not out, G. E. Wright 11; P. Blakeley two for 82, M. Chamberlain three for 62, B. Free for 42, M Frampton two for 28) drew with Ellesmere 153 for eight wickets (R. Brown 67, M. Fleming 11, A. Riordon 29, M. Chamberlain 12; D. Gunn two for 27, Q. Stuart one for 23, A. F Wright two for 19. N. Rothwell two for 22, R. Gunn one for 0).
