ARMS FOR ISRAEL
Germany May Refuse
(Rec. 9 pjn.) NEW YORK, December 26
The Bonn Government will almost certainly reject any Israeli move to get submarines or other arms from West Germany, the United Press reported from Bonn today. It quoted informed sources as saying that the Chancellor, Dr. Adenauer, and his regime, did not want to jeopardise West Germany’s position in the Middle East by supplying arms either to the Arab States or to Israel. The Israeli Premier, Mr David Ben-Gurion, told Parliament in Jerusalem to Tuesday that he was planning to send a high-level mission to West Germany in an effort to purchase arms.
He hinted that Israel was interested especially in submarines to match the growing Arab naval forces.
