FIRST TRIPLE DEAD-HEAT WITH PHOTO-FINISH USE

(New Zeatana Press Associationt

WESTPORT, December 27. The first triple dead-heat since photo-finish apparatus has been used in New Zealand was recorded today at Westport when the judge (Mr J. P. McEnaiiey) was unable to separate Night Owl, Wimpy, and Keff in the President’s Handicap, the sprint race on the first day of the Westport Trotting Club’s annual meeting. The three horses named above raced for the line locked together, with the trotter, Glengallan, also right up with them. It was apparent that Glengallan had been edged out of a place, but the public and drivers had to wait for some time before the numbers were posted. Night Owl and Wimpy were bracketed and they were a firm favourite. They paid £1 16s for a win and £2 8s for a place. Keff paid £1 8s for a win and £1 13s 6d for a place. The meeting opened under almost the worst possible conditions, with the track in bad order after a week of heavy rain. There was a small crowd.

Totalisator investments amounted to £12,491 ss, compared with £13,392 5s last year. The McGimpy - Weekender doubles combination returned £143 9s 6d for £l. Results:—
