Russia has announced a new 5-year-plan for increasing its meat output by 1960. In 1956, its per capita meat production amounted to 711 b, and they expect to triple this. The plan is to raise beef production from 2,200,000 tons (’56) to 7,000,000 tons; pork, from 2,600,000 to 10,000,000. A doubling of mutton output and a tripling of poultry meat is hoped for.
