“The Times” said in a leading article today that it would be no surprise if Sir Edmund Hillary has decided to ‘‘make a supererogatory thrust for the pole itself.” “There will be universal applause if he can join his hands with his colleagues from this country at the furthest southerly limit of the 1 world, and so double his persona] attainment of the highest mountain altitude and the great geographical latitude possible to earthbound man.” said “The Times.” The “Daily Telegraph” gave front page prominence to the New Zealand party’s southward dash, topping the page with “Hillary Hell-Bent for the Pole.” The “Daily Express’ also gave front page treatment to the story.
