Alcoholism
Sir. —H. G. Brown insists that I regard . alcoholism as a disease. Twice I have written that this is the recent pronouncement of the medical profession. That the alcoholic is not at ease is beyond dispute, so he is Dis-eased. To H. G. Brown I would say “Come let lus reason together.” If the sale !of liquor is to be prohibited be- ■ °ause of the sin of gluttonv. what i then of pride, lust, etc? Are the i manufacturers and salesmen of clothing—beyond man’s needs—to be treated likewise? Are lustful men and women to be destroyed or removed so that man will not be exposed to temptation? Is the man given to anger, jealousy and envy to have temptation removed? —Yours, etc., M. G. DAVIES. December 2, 1957.
