Christchurch Airport
i Sir,—l do not agree with the re- : marks of Mr Paul Pascoe that the .'architect should design the furniture, even down to the ashtrays. This one-man idea has become a ■little glaring in many of our new 'schemes in this city. For instance, j the mural design for the airport —why should there not be an • open competition for this, which ■ should be judged by someone out.side from overseas, if possible? After all, there are plenty of people in this city of ours who | are capable of presenting worth--while designs. As for furniture. what is wrong with our interior 'decorators? They. too. have been overseas, and do not consider air travel of a tiring nature, especially with the comfortable furnishing now to be enjoyed by passengers. not designed by the aircraft designers and constructors.— Yours, etc., WINGSPAN. December 2. 1957.
