TRUCK HITS BRIDGE

Seven Injured At Wellington (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 1. Seven persons were injured, four of them seriously, when a truck hit the Johnsonville railway bridge over the Hutt road, Thorndon, this morning. The injured are: Miss Mary Patene, machinist, of Hugh street, Wellington, compound fracture of the skull: her condition tonight is serious; Eru Brown, labourer, of Hataitai, suspected fracture of the spine: condition serious; Paul Walker, labourer, of Hataitai, suspected fracture of the spine: condition serious; Charles Pohatu, labourer, head injuries: condition serious; Robert Puha, driver, concussion: condition satisfactory; Charles Paki, labourer, of Moir street, Wellington; injury to the head: condition satis r actory; J. Paki, the driver of the truck, shock, lacerations to the face, and possible fracture of the nose: condition satisfactory. All the injured were admitted to Wellington Hospital. Contractor Fatally Injured (New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Dec. 1. A cartage contractor was fatally injured when a rear wheel of a seven-ton truck ran over him about 4 p.m. yesterday. He died in Taumarunui Hospital at 5.30 p.m. today. He was: Alan Corbett, aged 37, married, of Turangi. Mr Corbett was repairing the exhaust pipe on the truck in his garage. He was lying under the vehicle, and it is thought that he caused a short circuit in the electric wiring, and started the truck. As the vehicle moved, the wheel passed over him.

Pedestrian Killed At Oamaru

(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, December ,1. A 19-year-old salesman was killed when he was struck by a motor-car outside his home at Oamaru at 3.20 a.m. today. He was: Ivan James Kitchener Kennedy, single, who lived with his parents at 398 Thames highway, Oamaru. The car was driven by Robert John Slater, a shearer, of Duntroon.
