Yachting P AND Z CLASS TRIALS

During the week-end the first of the P Class trials to select a Canterbury representative for the Tanner Cup were held on the estuary. The races drew large entries, and the series will be completed next Saturday Conditions were good, with a moderate north-easterly breeze, on Saturday, but yesterday a strong south-west wind made sailing more tricky. However, the fastest time for the eight-mile windward and leeward course went to Tucana (L. Bachop), 82 minutes. Conditions were good, with a moderate north-easterly breeze. Thirteen yachts started. There were four entries for the Gough Cup for junior skipeprs. The race was sailed in adverse weather, with a gusty southerly wind and frequent rain and hail showers. Results:—

Kidson) 3, Bona (Miss L. Clark) 4. Waimakariri Club Winds were changeable for the Waimakariri Power Boat and Sailing Club week-end races. A northeasterly prevailed for the Saturday race, but the wind was a westerly at first and then changed to the south during the Sunday events. The river was at the end of a fresh. Stewarts Gully Club Conditions were difficult for yachting during the week-end races held by the Stewart’s Gully Sailing Club. The wind was light and variable and the river was still running high. The flooding of the Waimakiriri river did not damage the clubhouse or property. and the access road, which had been damaged, was again in use.
