Yachting P AND Z CLASS TRIALS

During the week-end the first of the P Class trials to select a Canterbury representative for the Tanner Cup were held on the estuary. The races drew large entries, and the series will be completed next Saturday Conditions were good, with a moderate north-easterly breeze, on Saturday, but yesterday a strong south-west wind made sailing more tricky. Results:— P Class Trials.—First race: Bernadine (L. McGrath) 1, Scamp (W. Honeywell) 2, Sinbad (R. Neale) 3, Puck (J. Rowntree) 4, Second race: Olympic (M. Tyson) 1, Puck 2, Sinbad 3. White Herron (R. Rudkin) 4. Third race: Olympic 1, Puck 2, Bernadine 3, White Herron Points to date are (subject to confirmation): Olympic 208, Puck 174, Bernadine 151, White Herron 114, Sinbad 106. Z Class Trials (start 12.00). — Melody (S. Loader, M.P.8.C.), Ihr 15min 41sec, 1; Zest (B. McKeogh, C.Y.C.), Ihr 16min, 2; Scamper (B. Treleaven, C.Y.C.), Ihr 21min 57sec, 3; Swift (R. Dawes, C.Y.C.), Ihr 22min 48sec, 4. BANKS PENINSULA CLUB The Banks Peninsula Cruising. Club’s Dalrymple Cup was won on Saturday by K. Duggan with April. However, the fastest time for the eight-mile windward and leeward course went to Tucana (L. Bachop), 82 minutes. Conditions were good, with a moderate north-easterly breeze. Thirteen yachts started. There were four entries for the Gough Cup for junior skipeprs. The race was sailed in adverse weather, with a gusty southerly wind and frequent rain and hail showers. Results:—

Fleet.—Dalymple Cup, 'start 1.45 p.m.: April (K. Duggan), 3hr 32min 40sec, 1: Mana (O. H. White), 3hr 20min 15sec, 2; Bona (J. A. Harrison), 3hr 25min 15sec, 3: Tucana, 3hr 6min 15sec, 4. A Class.—Mana 1, Tucana 2, Murare (W. H. Browne) 3. B Class.—April 1, Bona 2, Idle Hour (H. C. Templeton) 3. Gough Cup (for junior skippers). —April (K. Duggan) 1, Varuna (G. Treleaven) 2, Minx (C. Kidson) 3, Bona (Miss L. Clark) 4. Waimakariri Club Winds were changeable for the Waimakariri Power Boat and Sailing Club week-end races. A northeasterly prevailed for the Saturday race, but the wind was a westerly at first and then changed to the south during the Sunday events. The river was at the end of a fresh. Results were:— Armstrong and Farr (two rounds of triangular course).—Euclid (H. Blanchard), 2min, 51min, 1; Chinook (J. Tourell), 2min, 51min 12sec, 2; Kiki (G. Cook), 2min, 51min 22sec, 3. First heat of the Oborn Cup, Frostply championship, over three rounds windward and leeward: Tara (K. Tourell), 53min 12sec, 1; Chinook (J. Tourell), 54min Isec, 2; Rufus (C. Cook), 54min 12sec, 3, subject to confirmation. Cattermole Cup (two rounds of windward-leeward course).—Zambesi (I. Donaldson), 7min, 38min 47 sec, 1; Chinook (J. Tourell), 41min, 38min 59sec, 2; Cressy (R. Bargrove), scr, 40min 16sec, 3. Stewarts Gully Club Conditions were difficult for yachting during the week-end races held by the Stewart’s Gully Sailing Club. The wind was light and variable and the river was still running high. The flooding of the Waimakiriri river did not damage the clubhouse or property. and the access road, which had been damaged, was again in use. Charteris Bay Club The Charteris Bay Yacht Club’s pennant race was sailed yesterday in a fresh south-west wind. Results were:—
