Rugby TEST CASE ON PROFESSIONALS

Reinstatement Issue (N.Z. Press Association— Copyright) LONDON, December 1. The Welsh Rugby Union selectors have chosen the wing, Glyn John, for the first trial at Swansea on December 7 to try to force the issue on the International Union Board’s recent ban on reinstated professionals. The second reason for his selection for the trial was that the selectors thought he was the best wing in Wales, the “Daily Mail" said. John signed for a Rugby League club when he was 17, but handed back the signing-on fee after a few months, and was reinstated as a union amateur. But under the international rule he was not eligible to play in international matches. John played twice for Wales in 1953 before the ban came into force, the “Daily Mail” said. Since then he had not even had a trial game. The international board will meet in Belfast at the week-end. The Welsh union hopes to use John’s selection as a lever to have the point thrashed out. The more progressive union countries detested the ban and saw this as a chance to throw it out, the “Daily Mail” said.
