Appointment Of Two New Post-Primary Inspectors
Two well-known Christchurch teachers have been appointed post-primary inspectors and they will take up their new duties next year with headquarters in Christchurch covering the South Island.
Mr F. N. Wylde, first assistant master at the Linwood High School, has done most of his teaching in Christchurch. He was educated at the Greymouth Technical High School, qualified at the Christchurch Teachers* College, and graduated from Canterbury University College with bachelors’ degrees in both arts and science.
After primary teaching under the Canterbury Education Board, Mr Wylde had 12 years on the staff of the Christchurch Technical College, teaching mathematics and science. For nine years he was in charge of sports and coached Rugby and athletics. For many years he was secretary of the Secondary Schools’ Sports Association.
Mr Wylde was appointed head of the mathematics and science department of the new Linwood High School when it opened in 1954, and, on the change of principals, became first assistant at the beginning of this year. For some time he was secretary of the Canterbury Science Teachers’ Association, and this year he is president.
Mr Alan Prime, head of tha engineering department of the Christchurch Technical College, has also had experience in Wellington. Educated at the Napier Boys’ High School and the Christchurch Boys’ High School, he graduated from Canterbury University College with the degree of bachelor of engineering (electri-cal-civil).
For about 15 years after that, Mr Prime was employed in industry, mostly in Wellington, and was a part-time teacher of engineering at the Wellington Technical College. In 1948, Mr Prime joined the staff of the Technical Correspondence School in Wellington. He took a diploma in education at Victoria University College in 1952. Mr Prime received his present appointment in 1954, and has been specially interested in the development of daylight training for apprentices and the introduction of the New Zealand certificate in engineering. He is a member of the Canterbury Institute for Educational Research and the New Zealand Geographical Society.
