Medical Benefits
Sir, —My medical adviser recently told me that the B.M.A. executive in Wellington has recommended a new scale of fees: 12s 6d for day consultations; 15s for city visits; 15s plus mileage at 2s 6d a mile for country visits. While these increases have kept pace with the cost of living the Government subsidy has remained at the original level of 7s 6d a consultation and Is 3d a mile. The amount paid into the Social Security Fund must have increased with every wage increase. When will the Government pay a correspondingly larger proportion of the medical fee? I would be grateful to see comments in your columns from political leaders before November 30.—Yours, etc., E. HIGGINS. November 19, 1957.
