A TENTH CENTURY MOSQUE IN MANAMA, THE CAPITAL OF BAHRAIN.—ControI of the oil-producing Bahrain Islands, an independent sheikdom in the Persian Gulf, has been claimed by the Persian Government, which has decreed that Bahrain is to be the fourteenth Persian province. This decision has caused tension with Britain, which has had treaty relations with Bahrain since 1820. Oil was discovered in the sheikdom in 1932.
