EMPIRE GAMES TEAM
Association Decides On Uniform
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 13.
The New Zealand Empire Games team for Cardiff next year should be the best-dressed ever to represent the country overseas —and the smarter outfitting may not cost the Olympic and British Empire Games Association a penny.
The association has decided on an official uniform for the 1958 team that follows closely proposals made in September by Mr C. Rex Moore, of Auckland. The principle of giving “credits” to manufacturers who supply clothing free has also been approved. Quick to appreciate the advertising value, manufacturers have responded with offers. 17ie association now seems assured of being supplied free with the official uniforms and a quantity of extra "unofficial” clothing as well. Important changes in the new uniform are the partial switch from black to cream in blazers, dresses and slacks, the move from single-breasted to double-breasted blazers, and the replacement of the panama hat for men by a cap. The new uniform will comprise:— Men and women: one black mixed cloth (polyester fibre and wool) blazer, one track suit, one kit bag. Men: two pairs of mixed cloth trousers (one cream, one grey), two pairs of shoes (one buckskin, one lace-up black leather, to be provided by the competitor), two caps (one cream, one grey), one tie, two cotton dripdry shorts, one gunmetal coloured plastic coat, three pairs of socks, one cream sleeveless pullover. Women: one cream mixed-cloth dress, one grey skirt, one cream hat, one grey beret, three pairs of stockings, one red shoulder bag, one pair of cream gloves, one pair of grey gloves, one pair of white shoes, one pair of black shoes (to be provided by the competitor), one cream cardigan, one white mackintosh.
