FIRE BRIGADES COMPETE

Sumner Teams’ Success

Keen competition and consistent performances by many of the teams throughout a long programme of events were the features of the Canterbury Provincial Fire Brigades’ Association’s annual demonstration held in the Temuka Domain. Teams from as far as Hanmer Springs and Waimate took part in the events which were completed in excellent time.

Trophies won during the day were presented at a social evening held in the Citizens’ Hall at night. They were as follows: Championship Shield, Sumner; Hefford Cup, Lyttelton; Stokes Cup, Sumner; Lyttelton Licensed victuallers’ Cup, Sumner; Carson Memorial Cup, Ashburton; Bowan Cup, Sumner; Hanafin Rose Bowl, Sumner; Waimate Fire Brigade Cup, Lyttelton; Goodwill Cup (scout event), Temuka. Results were.—Three men disabled hose (wet): Sumner A 1, Geraldine A 2, Sumner B 3, Temuka A 4; four men laying line of hose: Lyttelton 1, Temuka 2, Ashburton 3 Geraldine 4; three men hose and standpipe: Sumner A 1, Sumner B 2. Kaiapoi A 3; four men hose and standpipe: Lyttelton 1, Kaiapoi 2, Geraldine 3, Sumner 4; Bowman Cup (21 years and under): Sumner A 1, Geraldine A 2, Temuka B 3, Kaiapoi 4; four men trailer pump: Ashburton 1, Temuka 2, Sumner 3, Fairlie 4; Boy Scout event: Temuka A 1, Waimate B 2, Temuka B 3.
