ORGAN RECITAL IN CATHEDRAL

Mr Roger Hollinrake

An organ recital arranged by the music department of Canterbury University will be given in the Christchurch Cathedral by Mr Roger Hollinrake, lecturer in musicology at the Auckland University.

The recital, which has been arranged by courtesy of the Dean and Chapter and the Christchurch Cathedral organist, Mr C. Foster Browne, will be held on Monday, November 4, at 1.10 p.m.

Mr Hollinrake, son -;of the late Professor H. Hollinrake, gained his L.R.S.M. in organ - playing at the age of 16. He was elected to oie Bernard Hale organ scholarship at Peterhouse College, Cambridge, where for several years he was organist and choirmaster and gave recitals in the University, from which he graduated M.A. Later, he went to Harvard University where he undertook research and continued, his organ studies. In London, he took his A.R.C.M. at the Royal College of Music and A.R.C.O. at the Royal' College of Organists. Mr Hollinrake has given recitals in Auckland and Wellington, has broadcast a number of solo works and recently agreed to inaugurate a course in organ playing as part of the executant diploma course scheme at Auckland University. The programme for his recital will include Cesar Franck’s Chorale No. 1, the “Great’’ Prelude and Fugue in B minor by Bach, three of Bach’s chorale preludes. and the “Weinen, Klagen” variations on a theme of Bach, by Liszt.
